According to the regional NGO “Man and Law” and the Interregional Committee against Torture that provide legal support to the mother of killed officer Dmitry Lebedev, the case against major Mikhailov charged with three crimes – murder, attempted murder and abuse of office – has been transferred to the Mariy El Supreme Court to be tried on the merits. Mr. Mikhailov has studied the case file already, now the Court is to appoint the date of the oral hearing.
At night on 5 July 2008 local traffic police officer, major Mikhailov, all of a sudden started shooting at his mate Lebedev and killed him. Officer Artem Turanov from the Volzhsk Department of the Interior performing a check at the police station was also wounded. Fortunately, the wound was not fatal.
