Today Orenburg witnessed opening of a two-day training for law enforcement agents entitled “Police and human rights”. The training is conducted by INGO “Committee against Torture” together with Mariy El human rights NGO “Man and Law” in the context of the project “Monitoring and education as a means to prevent tortures”. This is the third seminar organized by the Committee and its partners in Orenburg.

In March and November 2007 such trainings were conducted for criminal investigators and district police officers in Orenburg and Orenburg region. This time the seminar is organized for point duty service police officers.

Within two days police officers will learn the basic information on human rights, the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, activities of the Strasbourg Court.  Issues of human rights violation by state representatives will also be covered during the training, as well as psychological aspects causing conflicts between the authorities and the public and ways to solve them. Besides, it is planned to have a discussion on the role of NGOs and their cooperation with law enforcement structures. On completion of the training, police officers will receive certificates.
